BARRO LUDICO
Barro Ludico is an attempt to approximate ourselves to a ritual universe, in which a wide array of discursive elements and technical resources intervene.
This project was engendered in a search to understand all of the analogies of symbols, names and colors present in a low profile design engraved in terra cotta
Tiles, in a manner like a giant checker board with an array of tracks.
I had a dream with an barefooted spectator that orientates itself recognizing the chips, according to with its general enlightenment, finding and associating them, absorving information and energy for being on top of the board. According to the (chamanes)l this is called the center of Power.

The capacity to play a game, defines the (ludic) behavior, from placing the tiles in the floor and constructing the puzzle, to the graphic enjoinment in reproducing photocopies and photos to compose a fragmented reality on several supports. Its like a game that allows
Me as an artist to play in the physical creative process, and I leave to the observer,
To figure out how to play the game, to confront and perceive , to give itself to the space and to allow that the esthetic of the work be displayed.

The art is a game above all, where the artist must be bold and ingenious in proposing it,
The project must be unique as well as the experience in making it. I believe that this is the difference between craftsmanship and ant. It is the connection between the apparent, the real and the hidden, It is the seriousness of a childs games, rationalized and organized in different languages that have been formalized in distinct poetical media

These media, where the virtuality of reality manifests itself , it materializes the concept of photocopying the space, and this can be accomplished in a way, by photocopying each. tile that jointly compose a 39.3x39.3 ft floor checker board. The confrontation: original and copy still exist, but the photocopied object is the base, then I transfer the space and time into the bi-dimensional plane of a canvas. In addition, the making a giant photocopy using a machine that is limited to make reproductions of' 8.5 x 11 inch as the largest copies
This possible limitation is where I would like to center the spectator. The photocopy is a contemporary media to elaborate (more than copying) images, to make art.
To me, it results in an immediate graphic media... followed by the emotion...Then I resort to paint with conventional tools of the plastic artist, and gestate like a fingerprint of the uncontrolled act by rationality, seals the completion of the work.

The checkers materialize in the gestation, the dichotomic matches into 5 transcendental dichotomies: Matter/Spirit, God/Man, Civilization/ Nature, Male/Female and Mind/Body . The assigned contents in each of the chips was carefully pondered, attempting to define a concept for each individual square on the board. These concepts I have define personally. Perhaps these checkers will result in explicitly (ludicos), since its reference is a chess and checker board.
